Anchorage’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.8 percent last month, a 0.1 decrease.
This places the city below the state’s average rate of 5.7 percent and the nation’s rate of 7.3 percent.
So far this year, the city added 1,150 new jobs.
But, this isn’t news to Anchorage. For the last 20 years, the city has seen unemployment rates lower than the overall yearly averages.
Anchorage attributes its healthy employment rate to the increases in oil production. This year, the city hired more than 350 new oil workers than it did last year.
