BP Alaska recently reported it spent $1.5 billion last year on payroll. The company hired more than 350 contractors in 2012, representing about 20,500 jobs in the state.

Another 2,300 employees worked directly for the company.

BP Alaska manages 13 oilfields in Alaska, accounting for two-thirds of the state’s oil production.

While the company hasn’t released specific plans, it reports that passage of Senate Bill 21, which reduces state taxes on oil producers, will improve the company’s ability to hire more workers.

State taxes also saw large rewards from BP Alaska. The company has paid the state $2.8 billion in taxes and royalties.
